Self Portrait

  1. I like your first and last picture. The one in the middle is blurry, but if reshot while being still would actually turn out pretty well. I like how you kept the tone the same in all of your pictures. The dark and depressed look works well. My favorite picture is definitely the one of you sitting down with the cross necklace in your hand. It is very powerful and I can understand the message that you are trying to get across. One improvement on your first picture that would make it perfect is to cut down the light and glare from the window in the back and maybe light the scene with a lamp instead. The light from the window is just a little distracting and if fixed would make the picture so much better.

  2. You're photos have a dark feel to them but it's nice that you wore a white shirt to make yourself stand out of the darkness a little bit more. The first picture is nice but I feel like the light coming in through the window is a little much so maybe try at a different time of day? I like the subtle motion blur in the screaming photo though, makes it come to life a little bit.

  3. I really like your last photo, as the lighting is spot on for the mood you are portraying. You did a nice job of sitting right along the edge of the light, and with the white shirt you pop, but not too much. I think your first photo could use a bit of work, as I think you could rethink what is or is not within the framing. The current layout is ok but everything within the photo should be there for a reason.

  4. Quinton, I think that your strongest photograph is your third one. You do a nice job of using light/shadow to create a feeling of worry and further emphasize yourself within the photograph. Thee fact that you are covering your face, amidst darkness, creates a rather sad feeling to this work, but I think that this application of emotion really elevates your self portrait and turns it into a real storyline. I do question if there is too much empty space within this photograph. One thing you could do in your re-shoot is maybe see what happens when more is taking up the frame within your photograph. What props could you use to further tell this story. Would motion help to further the storyline being presented?

  5. I really enjoy the last picture where you use the light and empty space as the focal point. Even though theres nothing there is really creates a powerful and emotional message. I also really like the use of red in the second picture to show the anger that you are feeling because red symbolize anger. I think that you should reshoot the first one and maybe show more of the room. Maybe in the second image you can have the word anger in focus somewhere and have the same face and that blurred.

  6. The contrast in your images makes them very expressive. One photo I really enjoyed was your second photo. I love that you chose to keep your face out of focus. It was a smart choice with the expression of frustraion on your face. When reshooting, I would love to see you further explore motion blur and how it connects to your feelings. Nice work!

  7. these images have such a mood to them, i appreciate how you captured such images with very dark lighting. the first image is very informative and makes you look keeping into the image. For reshoots i would experiment with different color lighting and just more experimentation with them!

  8. Really enjoy the mood and use of muted colors here. Very emotive. I believe that the first image is deserving of a reshoot. I would definitely keep that yellow in the image, but I think you can improve the framing a bit using the rule of thirds as a point of reference.
